CAN announces Phillip Hughes’ Tribute Match
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on Friday announced a variety of support from Australia for the Phillip Hughes Tribute Match that is scheduled to be held at the TU Ground, Kathmandu on April 11.
The match will honor the Australian batsman who died tragically on 63 not out while playing for New South Wales (NSW) against South Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in November 2014.
Cricket Australia, and ICC Executive Committee, Chairman Wally Edwards are scheduled to attend the match, together with NSW and Sydney Thunder player Ryan Carters who has confirmed his participation, said CAN in a press statement.
“The announcement of further Australian players will take place shortly.”
Former Australian U-19 captain and current ICC Head of Global Development Tim Anderson will also attend the match, said CAN.
In respect of Phillip Hughes’ not out score in his final game, a 63-over game (31.3 overs per side) will be played between two combined teams made up of the visiting Australian cricketers, and players from the Nepali national side.
The Tribute Match will be followed by an expedition whereby one of Hughes’ bats and playing jerseys will be taken to Mt. Everest.
